Art Classes

 

Introduction

My name is Linda Dohanos-Gilchrist.  I have been an artist all my life and have a studio in a renovated barn in Monroe. I have taught all ages and to special interest groups, as well as incarcerated children in Bridgeport.  My approach to teaching is non-judgmental and nurturing towards students so they develop good techniques and skills. I believe there are no mistakes in art. This atmosphere enables the students to better express their imagination and creativity.

 

Class Schedule

Monday and Wednesday - pottery class, 4:15 to 5:30 (Ages 6-12)

Thursday - drawing and painting class, 4:15  to 5:30 (Ages 6 -12)

Thursday evening - adult drawing class with an open forum, 7:00-9:00 (Ages 13 & up)

Tuesday - adult pottery class, 11:00-1:00

 

Class description

These will be fine art lessons to explore the imagination and creative process while having fun making art. Techniques will be emphasized and inspirational themes will be introduced utilizing different materials. We will be referencing art history, other cultures, music and unique artists. There will be samples available and printed materials to help students visualize the project that I will be teaching them. The atmosphere will be relaxed, reflective and respectful of all students.

 

Ceramics

Learn basics in Hand building with clay, Slab rolling construction, Coil construction, Pinch pots, Stamping designs into clay, using the Potters’ Wheel, and glazing techniques.

 

Drawing and painting

The students will learn basic techniques in charcoal, pastel and pencil drawing. Students will learn how to draw a portrait, still life, and the basics in acrylic painting and pastels.

 

Payment Schedule

Payment is due at the beginning of class.

There will be no refunds available after the start of the class session.

A small materials fee and firing kiln fee will be charged according to use.

Each class will consist of no more than 8 students. 
There is a minimum of 5 students to start a class.
 The sessions will be continuous and follow the seasonal school schedule.

After school classes will be $90 for six classes.
(family discount -10% off for siblings)

Tuesday night forum and Adult pottery on Thursday is $120 for six classes.

 

Please purchase a package of at least 6 classes at a time.
(This is to assure class size, payment plans available.)

Seniors 60 years or older receive a 20% discount on adult classes, plus small material fee.

Private lessons available upon request and are $40 an hour.

 

Birthday Parties!!!

Birthday Parties are available on Saturdays or Sundays from 1:00 -3:00. They include an art lesson, face painting, and a group photograph.

Please provide cake and refreshments.

An 8 children minimal requirement, 12 max.  $20 per child.
